I'm going to be going into great detail on why you need a blog and how to use it as time goes by. (Trust me, successful Farm Marketing depends on it.) But right now I want to address all of those who have a farm blog and don't keep it updated on a regular basis.
The biggest excuses I hear for this is no time or thinking you have nothing to say. Well listen up... success in the slow food movement depends on a non-stop stream of content. It's all about tell
ing your story...often and with passion.
I wanted to share this quick idea for those days you think you have nothing to say and you can't come up with a story. Tell your Supplier's story. This is fictional...but suppose you wrote:
"We work with a heritage seed producing family from Waterbury VT. It's amazing, the company has been in business since 1950 - really the very beginning of the organic movement. These seeds have been grown with a heritage seed they've named "Taylor" and the genetics go back almost 100 years......"
Well you get the idea right? All the information you need to write a super engaging blog post is right in front of you. A lot of us find it much easier talking about someone else who's awesome vs. talking about ourselves.
The beauty of this strategy is that the very act of talking about your suppliers says something positive about you as a farmer. It shows how careful you are and your passion for your partners in the sustainable journey.
