I'm so lucky to visit 3 Sisters Farm

3 Sisters FarmUpdate:  I just added a great 3 Sisters Video from a feature on the Cooking Channel. Check it out at the bottom...

As the old saying goes..."sometimes it is better to be lucky than good".  Last week I was speaking at a marketing conference on Whidbey Island in the state of Washington.   I had no idea what to expect and was frankly blown away by the beauty, the people and for lack of a better word...the pace of this amazing island just a short ferry ride from Seattle.

To top it off, imagine my luck to meet Ron and Shelly Muzzall of 3 Sisters Farm who invited me up to Oak Harbor to tour their Grass Fed Beef Farm.   I wish I could have taken more pictures but this place is amazing.   The three sisters are their three daughters and all are pretty much grown and seriously contributing to this family business.   The farm has been in Ron's family since 1910 and I'm not exactly sure when they renamed it.   For most of it's life it was a dairy farm, and only in the last few years have they converted (reluctantly) to the Grass Fed beef operation.  They also have free range pork and a big free range chicken farming operation.

As a new farmer I'm always amazed at the generosity of time from this community.   I'm sure Ron had a million things to do but never...ever...made me feel like I was intruding when asking the most rudimentary questions.  ( "Hey Ron...what's that?")

You will have to check out their website to see some amazing pictures.   This has got to be the best views of any farm in the lower 48...although they don't show many, I was gaga over the farm running up to the water and the amazing views of the Olympic Mountains.

They sell all over the Island and there is talk of opening an actual retail store.   I'm hoping we can get them to start blogging here on Farmers Market and start getting a lot more insight from this amazing farm.
