free range pork, aged cheddar cheeseThe 17th Street Farmers’ Market in Richmond is one of America’s oldest public markets.  Talk about amazing history, the site of the market has been a public gathering place since 1737.  Just imagine all the events, speeches, festivals, democracy and important people that have visited, shopped or socialized these grounds.  Visiting this market is about so much more than just fresh, healthy food, it’s also a reminder of what our country was founded on.

Throughout the centuries the market has changed, evolved, and slowed down with the times.  In the mid 1900’s, things in that area of Richmond started to decline and eventually when the supermarket era hit, the market began to dwindle.  Today, “the 17th Street Farmers’ Market has begun its renaissance”.

A fantastic place to soak in history AND shop for amazing locally grown, raised and crafted products, 17th Street is a Richmond destination.  On any given market day you can find a great selection of regional vendors selling their fruits and vegetables, baked goods, eggs, dairy, flowers, healthy meats like free range pork, delicious aged cheddar cheese, teas, crafts and so much more.  The market is also packed with lots of free events and activities like talks on healthy living, live music and fun themes.  Whether you are new to the food movement or a seasoned veteran, the 17th Street Market is the place to shop!
