The Staunton/Augusta Farmers’ Market has an important message, “Know your farmer, know your food”. If you shop their market, or any other market in the region, you have the benefit of buying fresh, local food directly from the people who grew, raised or produced it. The Staunton Market operates on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 7 am to noon during their April through November season. If you want to know the farmers who grow Virginia’s finest foods, join the locavore movement and shop the market!
Since its inception in 1993, the Staunton/Augusta Market has been a “producer only” market, which means everything sold was grown, raised or produced by the people who are selling it. Since the Staunton Market limits this activity to within a 50 mile radius of their town, you can be sure that the food you buy is truly local. Vendors bring with them a great variety of produce, dairy, baked goods, fresh eggs, and healthy meats like free range pork and grass fed chicken. Regardless of what you are looking for or your budget, the market has something your family will love.
April is right around the corner, which means the Staunton Market will soon begin their 2012 season. Buying local is the best choice for everyone and everything involved; it’s healthier, safer, and cheaper while directly supporting the regional economy. “Know your farmer, know your food” at the Staunton Market this season.
