With the weather warming up and the farmers market season beginning in many regions, this short video may be helpful to some of our rookie market goers out there: "How to Shop at a Farmers Market"
Don't be ashamed, we've all been first timers at the market once in our lives...
Some of the tips they include are bringing a list, shopping early in the morning to get the most variety and talking with your vendors to get tips on seasonal harvests.
I'd add to that bringing a shopping a bag (so you're not spotted as the rookie shopper with the classic plastic "thank you" bag), and, although they recommend NOT shopping hungry in this video, I disagree.
I recommend shopping hungry and hitting a vendor who sells fresh crepes, sandwiches, or anything fresh to munch on while you shop.
In fact, one of my favorites is to grab a smoothie from a local juicer who blends fruits and vegetables with a variety of optional healthy add-ons while you wait. What better way to get a quick vitamin boost than sipping on a delightful beverage while you peruse the market?
Enjoy the start of your journey this Spring at your local organic food depot and don't forget to keep these tips in mind if you're heading out there as a first-timer. Happy shopping!
