It's pronounced "sham-POO-ee" and is a word that has lot of history in the fine State of Oregon. Champoeg was the name of the town where the first Willamette Valley settlers met in 1843 to establish a provisional government. They petitioned the US Congress in Washington DC and by 1848, the Oregon Territory was organized, however Champoeg wasn't chosen as the capital. It's a ghost town now, but represents the pioneering spirit of Oregonians. And the land surrounding this special place is where Champoeg Farm continues to farm with that same spirit and love for this special land in the Willamette Valley.Mark Anderson heads up the family farming operation here at Champoeg Farm and his family has been doing it for a very long time... since 1856. They've got pasture raised eggs through free range chicken farming, pasture raised turkey, "pearls of the pasture" duck eggs and pasture raised and grass fed beef and pork. These are some very happy animals here on the farm with lots of green pastures and space to roam.
You'll be able to pick up the fine products from Champoeg Farm at the Beaverton Farmers Market and also from several local produce markets and restaurants like New Seasons Market, Zupan's Markets, Laurelhurst Market, Grand Central Baking Company, The Big Egg and even Whole Foods.
