grass fed meatgrass fed meatIsn't Gryffon's Aerie a cool name? I love it. And I love how many different grass fed meats you can get from this farm. They raise cattle, sheep and pigs, and all of the animals are allowed to graze freely on the rolling hills of their farm.

Gryffon's Aerie started in Virginia in 1999 with the goal of providing quality grass fed beef and lamb and natural pork without any hormones or antibiotics. In addition to that goal, they are dedicated to raising their animals in the most humane way...Read More » »

free range chickenWow.. I've written a lot about meats today. Can you tell I'm ready for dinner? Each all natural farm that I find has been so different, but so much the same when it comes to their dedication to their animals and to sustainable farming. Haskins Family Farm is a small, sustainable farm in Middletown, Virginia that raises all natural chickens and turkeys as well as pork.

This family loves all of the animals on their small farm, and allow them to graze and forage freely on their 14 acre farm. None...Read More » »

by Jordan Woodside
Friday, August 12, 2011
organic meatIt's no secret that I love free range, grass fed beef. But one foodie obsession that I haven't yet talked about is my obsession with lamb. I admit, I've strayed from local food to eat lamb in the past. But I've finally found a farm that offers organic, grass fed lamb (as well as beef, chicken, duck, pork and occasionally goat).

Groff's Content Farm is located in Rocky Ridge, MD and, let me just tell you, Rocky Ridge is one of the most beautiful, untouched places I've seen around the DC area. My...Read More » »

After a quick search I found FarmFresh Markets. And I'm so happy that I did! This company is amazing because they offer 11.. count 'em.. 11 unique farmers markets in the Chesapeake Bay region. A Historic Local Farm and CSA at Big White Barn

by Jordan Woodside
Thursday, August 11, 2011
locally grownCarrolton Farms/Big White Barn CSA is a farm with a history. This 200-acre farm, located in Frederick, MD, is part of the original land grant of Charles Carrolton - he was the last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence! One of their farm doors even has an inscription dated 1863! Call me a nerd, but I love living in an area with such a rich history.

This farm offers a huge selection of locally grown fruits and vegetables - and quite a few that you don't usually find like edamame...Read More » »

Raw Milk Cheese from Chapel's Country Creamery

by Jordan Woodside
Thursday, August 11, 2011
raw milk cheeseIn addition to my urgent need to find a local farmers market on the east coast, I'm also in need of finding a local cheese maker and I think I've found it with Chapel's Country Creamery. This creamery is located on 116 acres in Eastern Maryland and is home to 40 Jersey and Holstein cows.

Their mascot is a beautiful cow named Rainey (shown the picture). She was the inspiration for the family to go into the dairy and cheese business and is clearly a very well-loved pet. You can find her picture on...Read More » »

Sunday marks the first day of this year's National Farmers Market Week here in the US and it's a perfect time to make your 1st (or your 10th or 65th or 209th) trip to a market.

Farmers markets have become huge in the past 11 years as more and more people see the benefits of eating local. It's fantastic to see each market that I go to during the week packed with people from open to close - and sometimes...Read More » »

Huge Variety of Local Fruits from Creekside Tropicals

by Jordan Woodside
Friday, August 5, 2011
local fruitOkay... I'm learning a valuable lesson today: Don't blog on locally grown fruit while you're hungry.

I know I can get some of this delicious looking fruit from Creekside Tropicals on Sunday at the Hillcrest Farmers Market.... but that is doing very little to help my growling stomach right now.

Creekside Tropicals is a pesticide-free local farm that grows some a-maz-ing fruit. And some really cool ones to boot. At their farmer's market stands they currently have tons of soft and ripe Hass...Read More » »

Hillcrest Farmers Market: The Best in San Diego

by Jordan Woodside
Friday, August 5, 2011
farmers marketI recently went to Hillcrest to go to dinner and fell in love with the area. It's a part of San Diego that's filled with character and life. And a weekly farmers market! What more could you want?

The Hillcrest Farmers Market is held every Sunday from 9am-2pm in the Hillcrest DMV Parking Lot. I love a Sunday market that is open until 2. What can I say? I like to be lazy on Sundays.

This market started in 1997 with just 37 vendors and today is made up of 140! Of which, about 125 can be seen on any...Read More » »
